Melissa Flores Appointed: Before joining CHSWC, Flores spent 21 years at the California Housing Finance Agency (CalHFA), where she held multiple leadership roles, including Assistant Director of Board Relations & External Communications, overseeing board operations, public affairs, and the CalHFA Creative Media Team. She also served as the Governor-appointed Deputy Director of Special Projects (2004-2017), leading statewide marketing and communications efforts.

Her expertise in board governance, policy communication, and public engagement makes her well-positioned to strengthen CHSWC’s role in workplace safety oversight.

Corporate & Community Leadership

Beyond her tenure in state government, Flores has extensive experience in private-sector management, including leadership roles at Vision Service Plan (1991-2003) in marketing and administration and Progressive Insurance (1986-1991) as a Manager of Property Casualty Underwriting. She also served as Chair of the Elk Grove Charter School Board (2012-2022) and volunteered for Habitat for Humanity. Flores holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Marketing, and Computer Science from California State University, Sacramento.
