EDD to Require Electronic Filing for Disability Insurance Certifications

March 21, 2025 – EDD Disability Insurance Certifications: The California Employment Development Department (EDD) will soon mandate that medical providers submit California State Disability Insurance (SDI) medical certifications electronically. This change follows recent amendments to Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations (Section 2706-4).

Transition Period and System Updates

EDD is currently updating its systems to implement this change. Until the transition is complete, physicians should continue submitting SDI documents as they have been. The California Medical Association (CMA) will provide updates when EDD’s system upgrades are finalized. EDD will also share information through its website, newsletters, social media, and other outreach channels.
