January 8, 2025 – Applications for Qualified Medical Evaluator: The Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) has opened the application process for the Qualified Medical Evaluator (QME) examination, which will take place from April 5 to April 11, 2025. This examination enables medical professionals to become certified as QMEs, allowing them to significantly contribute to the workers’ compensation community.
Examination Details and Registration Process
Pearson VUE will conduct in-person computer-based testing (CBT) for the April 2025 QME examination on behalf of DWC. CPS HR Consulting, the vendor managing the QME Exam, will send candidates detailed registration and scheduling information. DWC will announce specific test site locations in the Registration Notices.
Public Access to QME Applicant Information
Under the California Public Records Act (PRA; Gov. Code, § 7920 et seq.), DWC will make all completed QME applications and registration forms available for inspection and copying. As a result, the public may access personal information, such as names and contact details (address, phone number, and email), of those who register for or pass the QME examination. Additionally, DWC will publish the names, business addresses, and specialties of approved QMEs through its online search portal, ensuring transparency and accessibility.
Applying for the QME Examination
QMEs are independent physicians certified by the DWC Medical Unit to perform medical evaluations for injured workers. Interested applicants can download the application and registration packet for the QME exam from the DWC website. Alternatively, they can contact the Medical Unit at 510-286-3700 to request applications via U.S. mail, email, or fax. Applicants must submit their exam applications by February 19, 2025. DWC will not accept applications postmarked after this deadline.
