May 13 2025 | MedLegalNews.com – Oakland, CA — The Commission on Health and Safety and Workers’ Compensation (CHSWC), part of the California Department of Industrial Relations (DIR), has launched its annual Safe Jobs for Youth Month campaign. Every May, the state highlights the importance of protecting young workers and preventing workplace injuries among teens.
Raising Awareness for Teen Worker Safety
CHSWC collaborates with a broad coalition—including state agencies, educators, employers, and families—to raise awareness about the health and safety risks young workers face on the job. The initiative is part of a statewide public information effort led by the California Partnership for Young Worker Health and Safety.
The University of California, Berkeley’s Labor Occupational Health Program (LOHP) coordinates the campaign, which provides educational tools and resources to help teens stay safe at work. Safe Jobs for Youth
Resources Available to Educators, Employers, and Teens
The campaign offers posters, fact sheets, quizzes, a mobile app, and a comprehensive educator resource kit—all available at YoungWorkers.org. These tools are designed to support both teens entering the workforce and the adults responsible for their training and supervision.
CHSWC encourages all employers who hire minors to review their obligations under California labor law and to create safe, supportive work environments for young employees.
