Commission on Health and Safety and Workers’ Compensation (CHSWC) Meeting Insights

The CHSWC meeting, originally set for March 22, 2024, has been postponed. The meeting will now take place on May 15, 2024, at 10 a.m. in the Elihu Harris State Building Auditorium. The meeting agenda includes the Draft 2023 CHSWC Annual Report and the Draft 2023 WOSHTEP Annual Report. These reports will highlight key achievements and provide a roadmap for future improvements in workplace safety and workers’ compensation.

One major presentation will focus on the Young Worker Partnership and Young Worker Leadership Academy (YWLA). Hestia Rojas from the Labor Occupational Health Program (LOHP) at UC Berkeley will share updates on efforts to enhance safety training for young workers. These workers are often at a higher risk in the workplace but lack sufficient safety training.

William Murphy, Assistant Chief Counsel at the DIR Anti-Fraud Unit, will outline efforts to address fraud and ensure resources reach workers effectively.

These discussions demonstrate CHSWC’s commitment to improving worker safety and reducing injuries. By focusing on issues like young worker protection and fraud prevention, CHSWC seeks to improve both workplace environments and the integrity of the workers’ compensation system.
